Building on a legacy of excellence
Graphene NOWNANO CDT played a pivotal role in driving the UK's leadership in the field of graphene, 2D heterostructures, membranes, composites and coatings. It provided an interdisciplinary training ground for over 120 doctoral researchers, fostering a collaborative environment that spanned physics, chemistry, engineering, and materials science.
The new CDT will continue to foster deep collaborations between academia and industry, strengthening the pipeline from research to application, by leveraging the successes and best practice of Graphene NOWNANO. This new CDT is poised to support the next wave of pioneering scientists and engineers who will shape the future of materials science.

PhD programme overview
Using a broadly similar model of study to the previous Graphene NOWNANO CDT, PhD students will spend an initial period of time learning essential skills.
Students will receive highly-advanced training in the fundamentals of 2D materials, their applications, and key techniques, followed by a three and a half year research project, complemented by direct engagement with a network of academic and industrial partners.
All of which sits alongside the community of research and cohort that we foster through annual events, networking and outreach opportunities.
